Salt discovery: First news

Wednesday, September 28, 1887

Editor's note: Although the Sept. 27 edition of the Hutchinson Daily News is missing from our microfilm archive, here is a notice following up on the initial announcement in the News by its rival the Herald, which initially attempted to throw cold water on the claim.

It is stated that a twenty foot vein of salt was discovered yesterday in the gas well which is being bored in South Hutchinson. Let's see - oil, gas, coal, salt - what next? We'll bet a cocoanut that well turns out to be a diamond mine yet. At least it must if we can believe the stories of some of the workmen.
